How it works:
Synthetic Aperture Radar is designed to analyze surface backscatter. Standard processing reconstructs surface geometry, roughness, and reflectivity. Delayed or weak signal components are typically discarded as noise.
Harmonic SAR isolates a weak, delayed, coherent component embedded in the radar return, achieved through deterministic signal processing, not opaque AI models. This component enables depth-aware interpretation.
Polarimetric SAR uses multiple polarization channels. Different polarizations reveal different scattering mechanisms and material properties, improving physical interpretability beyond single-polarization SAR.
Harmonic PolSAR applies polarimetric analysis to the harmonic (subsurface-sensitive) signal, polarimetry applied after harmonic decomposition, not to surface backscatter. This enables interpretation of subsurface structures, contrasts, and potential fluid anomalies.
Harmonic PolSAR is used for subsurface imaging. Surface deformation monitoring (PSInSAR) is a separate technology, used exclusively for surface motion over time, and is not part of this method.
